Gangnam Style Flash Mob – Bondi Beach 2012
16,823 views (and counting!)
On a blazing sunny Sunday — September 30th, 2012 — the Sunny Bins crew rolled down to Bondi Beach for one of our strangest and most unforgettable hires. DJ Owen from the Happy Holiday crew had cooked up a surprise flash mob rave, and our job was to power it — literally — with two solar-powered Sunny Bins linked wirelessly across the promenade.
When Gangnam Style dropped (twice, of course), the place went off. Dancers burst into PSY’s signature moves, and within minutes a crowd of curious onlookers had joined in, laughing, dancing, and letting loose under the sun. What started as a quirky booking turned into a full-blown viral moment — with the video racking up over 16,000 views and counting.
The whole thing was inspired by PSY’s global hit Gangnam Style, released in July 2012 — a tongue-in-cheek take on Seoul’s flashy Gangnam district that became one of YouTube’s most “liked” videos in history.
Funny enough, it wasn’t our only Gangnam Style adventure that year — the Korean Film Festival flash mob in Martin Place also used a Sunny Bin sound system to bring their roving dancers to life across the Sydney CBD.
It just goes to show — whether it’s a flash mob, a festival, or a one-off moment of spontaneous joy — Sunny Bins bring solar-powered sound wherever the good vibes flow.
